DTG vs DTF: Which Print Method Is Right for Your Design?

Two folded printed t-shirts showing a soft detailed print and a bold vibrant print

Threadmates prints every custom order with DTG or DTF. Here is the difference, in plain terms.

DTG (direct-to-garment) prints directly into the fabric. The result is a soft, detailed finish — ideal for full-color designs on tees and hoodies.

DTF (direct-to-film) applies the design via film. It gives maximum durability and works on a wider range of fabrics and colors.

So which one is right for your design? Honestly, it depends on the design and the garment — there is no single rule that fits every artwork. That is why we recommend the right method for your design when you order, rather than making you guess. Upload your artwork, and we will print it with the method that suits it best.

Either way, the rest stays the same: no minimum order, one item welcome, preview your design front and back in the customizer before you check out, printed in our River Edge, New Jersey studio, most orders fulfilled in 2–3 days.

Start with a custom T-shirt and see how your design looks.
